harajukyuu <3 Thanks again!
“Akanishi, is it?”
Jin’s eyes grew wide as he lifted his eyes from his pile of documents, crumbs of his apple pie all over his desk and all around his mouth. He wiped it with the back of his sleeve and hurried to swallow his bit. “I’m sorry, yes, yes I am.”
He patted his hands down on his pants and got up, holding out his right hand for the other man to shake. “Jin,” he said. “Call me Jin.”
The man that stood before him was tall and handsome. (What? Sure he had a crush on the cute baker guy, that doesn’t mean he couldn’t say that another man was handsome!)
According to his quick calculations, the man was at least 6 feet. He had a mop of black hair on his head and a smile across his face. Something in the back of his head was telling him to be careful but he didn’t know why and he wasn’t one to judge on a first meeting.
“Junnosuke Taguchi, but you can call me Junno.”
Jin nodded as he took in the bubbly personality that had just emerged from the man in front of him. Surely there had to be more to him and just this happy-go-lucky guy...hell, wasn’t he a lawyer as well?
“I’m sorry I couldn’t greet you last Monday,” Junno started, now sitting down in the chair that’s in front of Jin’s desk. “I was out of town for a case and i came home Friday.”
“It’s ok, really,” Jin assured him. “Everyone has been really nice.”
“Good. So, Jin, tell me about yourself.”
“I - uh, there’s really nothing to tell,” Jin admitted shyly, not used to having people interested in knowing him.
“Come now, there must be something!”
Jin quickly learned that Junno was an evil mastermind. Somehow, the man had managed to make him talk for over 30 mins and they ended up laughing so hard people had flocked to his office, curious to see what the fuss was about. Why was the new kid so interesting? Jin still wondered.
For the first time in a long time, a smile was plastered on his face during his whole ride home. Sure, the cute baker guy called Kame hadn’t been there that morning or, well, the morning before...or day before that... but it was ok! Because he had still gotten great apple pie and, and, he had made a new friend!
Life in Tokyo couldn’t be as bad as he first thought.
He stepped out of his car, locked it, and made his way towards his building, where he was put to a halt by a little girl that was drawing on the sidewalk with a green chalk. He observed her for a while, guessing that she was about 6 or 7, and noted that no adults were around. It was almost 6:30pm, why was she alone?
He nibbled a little on his lower lip and approached her, kneeling down next to her. “That’s a pretty turtle you’re drawing,” he said.
“Thanks. I like turtles.”
Jin smiled, who didn’t? “Are you alone?”
“I’m waiting for my mom,” she looked up at him, eyes bright and young. “Are you alone?”
He laughed. Children. “Yes,” he admitted. “Yes I am alone.” Before he knew it, she was handing him a blue chalk and he was on the ground, drawing with her. “Where is your mom?”
“I dunno” The girl admitted with a tired sigh. “I got tired of being at the park with the afterschool daycare so I came home.”
“You left the daycare?” She nodded. “Did you tell anyone?”
“Nah.”
Jin traced a few lines on the pavement before looking up at her again. “People will be worried you know, if you go disappearing like that.”
He considered his options: he could walk the girl back but, then again, if someone was already looking for her and they came here, he wouldn’t be there anymore. He looked at his watch: 6h45p.m. He was beyond starving.
As it turned out, she was also hungry as her stomach rumbled as loud as his. “Do you live in his building?” he asked the child.
“Mhm. Mom should be home from work soon.”
“I’m Jin, I moved in last week,” he told her, extending his hand for her to shake.
“Hanako,” she obliged. “We’re on the 4th floor. You?”
“6th. Moving day was horrible,” he said with a laugh. “It sucks that we don’t have an elevator.”
Hanako laughed, “Mum keeps whining about that too.”
They chit-chatted for a while. Talking about what she had done in school and what he had done at work. (Boring adult stuff according to her.) And it was only after they had almost drawn across the whole area that their stomachs started to rumble.
“Are you hungry, Hanako? We could leave a message on the sidewalk for your mum to see and take a few sandwiches at the bakery?”
The girls’ eyes widened at his suggestion and a huge grin appeared on her face as she turned to write her mom’s name right in front of the door. She then got up and dragged Jin into the bakery.
Had no one ever told this girl not to trust strangers? Sure he wasn’t a creep but he could’ve been!
“Slow down!” he laughed, patting down his dress pants of the chalk.
They approached the counter and Jin hurried to tell her that she could have what she wanted. It didn’t take long for her to stick her nose to the glass, getting as close to the food as she could.
“Cute kid.” A familiar voice said.
“Huh?” Jin raised his eyes from the girl and the smile that had been on his face faded as he was confronted by the hot baker Kame. “I, she, I’m...babysitting.”
“Oh.” Kame’s smiled faded. But just for a second. The next second was filled with dimples and the laughter that made Jin’s heart melt. Gosh. He was really head over heels over this guy, wasn’t he? Hell, he didn’t know a thing about him. He could be a serial killer or something.
“Jin!” Hanako insisted as she pulled on his sleeve, bringing him out of his thoughts.
“Huh?” Jin looked down at the girl and saw that she was getting frustrated with him. He had probably done that think where he got lost in thoughts and couldn’t hear what was around him unless he was brought back with any type of physical contact. “You decided on what you wanted?”
“Mm.” She pulled on his sleeve a bit more, bringing him closer to the display and pointed one of the sandwhiches. “That one,” she said.
Jin nodded and looked back up at Kame. “That one it is,” he said with a smile. “I’ll have the same please.”
Kame obliged and prepared a small tray with the sandwiches and the milk Hanako had insisted on adding at the last minute.
“Is this going to be a new habit?” Kame asked.
Taking the tray, Jin raised a brow. “What is?”
“You, coming in here twice a day.”
Jin’s jaw slowly dropped and he didn’t know what to say. “You can’t possibly know that, you weren’t even here this morning!”
“Ha!” Kame began to laugh and Hanako tugged the tray out of Jin’s hands, tired of waiting for him. “Tricked you! You’re right, I didn’t know,” he bit down on his lower lip and let out a chuckle. “But now I do.”
Damn him, Jin thought. Damn him and his perfect dimples and his cute blue bandana with pandas. I’ve been played.
“Well now,” Jin coughed. “I’ll be over there,” he pointed the table, “thinking over my life decisions. So, if you’ll excuse me…”
Kame made a sign with his hand and smiled brightly at Jin, obviously proud of his little moment and Jin went to Join Hanako at the table, where she had already devoured half of her sandwich.
“He likes you.” She said to him immediately, making him tumble off the chair. He had managed to catch himself of the table but the chair had not gotten so lucky.
Jin knew that his face was red. He also knew that the handsome baker (he had gone from cute to handsome. Jin couldn’t help it. The man was feeding him the best food ever, how could he not promote him?) was looking at him.
He coughed and brought the chair back to it’s feet, daring a quick glance towards the counter where, as he thought, Kame was standing and smiling.
Jin leaned closer towards Hanako, his sandwich in one hand and the other gripping the table. “What do you mean he likes me?!”
“You obviously like him too.”
“I do not.”
“I’m 8 i’m not stupid,” Hanako said, almost rolling her eyes. “I’ve seen mum look at other men in the same ways you look at the baker guy.”
“Shut up,” Jin hurried to add in a shouted whisper, afraid that Kame would hear their talk and kick them out of the bakery. “I do not like him and I am not having this conversation with you.”
“Whatever, loverboy,” the kid added in a whisper.
Jin leaned back in his chair and analysed the kid. “Are you sure you’re 8? You don’t talk like you’re 8. And well, you look like you’re 6,” he teased.
“Mum isn’t home much...She has to work a lot and I get bored. I read a lot and I watch a lot of movies,” she told him matter of factly.
“Hm. What about your dad?”
“I live with him on weekends….here it’s closer to my school.”
“I see...what-”
“Hanako! Thank God!”
Jin and Hanako turned to see a woman, visibly exhausted, standing at the door of the bakery, a woman that Jin immediately recognized to be Haruka Yoshida.
“Hi mum!” the girl said, as if she had never run away from the daycare in the first place.
Haruka ignored Jin altogether and kneeled in front of her child to take her into her arms.”Do you know how worried I’ve been?! How could you do that, again?!”
“I was bored mom! I wanted to come home. I left you a note.”
“Yes, yes. I saw,” she was about to add something but her attention turned to Jin, who she had not noticed until now. “Oh! Hi!”
As awkward as he always was, Jin had somehow decided that a small wave would be appropriate. “Hi. I uh, sorry, I couldn’t leave her alone on the street and she was hungry so I - Oh - “ To say that he was taken aback by her, suddenly hugging him, was putting it lightly. “Ok - I - Ok.” He added an awkward pat on the woman’s back.
“Thank you, Jin, really. She worries me silly and I’m happy to know that I can trust you.”
“I, um...”
What? Trust? He barely knew the woman. Having the trust of a child was easy but a woman? That was way new to him.
“Please, let me take you out to dinner to thank you,” she told him, now standing next to their table. “It’s the least I can do,” she added with a smile.
Jin smiled back but inside, he was dying a little. When it came to women, he had no idea how to act. “I um, but - “
“I won’t take no for an answer.”
“I, Sure,” he managed to say. “I guess.” He let out a small nervous laugh and stood up.
“7, Friday?”
“Works for me,” he smiled. “I’ll pick you up at you’re appartment.”
After helping her daughter up, Haruka leaned closed to Jin and placed a light kiss on his cheek.
Huh. Wasn’t expecting that one.
Sparing one last glance at the counter, that currently Kame-Free, jin let out a small sigh and followed the Ishidas out of the bakery and into their building.
He bid them goodnight and continued up to the 6th floor and into his home, in which he promptly crashed on the couch, his cellphone in his hands.
--
“I’m telling you she just wants to thank me for taking care of Hanako!”
Jin. Pi’s voice said on the other end, laughter clear as day in his tone. She was into you since the first day we saw her. She didn’t even look at me! Remember! Me?!
“Ego Pi, ego.”
This is to-talllyy a date man. I’m telling you.
“And I’m telling you it’s not!”
Man, you really don’t see it when people are into you, don’t you? Hell, I could be into your and you wouldn’t know.
“Ew. No. Don’t say that. I don’t want to date you.”
HEY. What’s wrong with dating me?! The other asked, insulted by the tone that Jin had used.
“You’re...Pi!”
Yes, that’s my name. I am Pi.
“No I mean, even if you did like me, which is ew, by the way, it could never work. I can’t stand living with you for over a week and when you eat anything with beans you stink and I’m not ready for that kind of commitment. I’ll turn to you when my next relationship goes to hell, Ok?”
Please don’t. I really want to find a girlfriend soon. Settle down maybe, have a kid-
“Have a kid?” Jin laughed and ignored the comments that Pi decided to add, basically saying something along the lines of: What’s wrong with having a kid?! I take care of you most of my time anyways, what’s the big difference?!
--
“You look tired. What happened after you left last night?” Kame laughed as he handed Jin his change.
Jin who took his change but could barely manage to make a full sentence without thinking through 5 or 6 times in his head beforehand. “Yeah -” He stifled a yawn and lost his balance a bit, causing him to step backwards. “I talked with a friend on the phone for a while and it kind of degenerated into a full blown life-changing decision making conversation or something. I don’t really remember much…”
Kame laughed again and Jin suddenly felt more awake. He was already getting used to seeing that smile every other morning.
“The whole sidewalk in front of the bakery is covered in chalk,” the baker said matter-of-factly, clearly already aware of the fact that Jin was the culprit in this case.
“Yeahhhhh,” Jin chuckled as he stirred his coffee with the little wooden sticks that were near the milk and sugar. “I coloured with Hanako and it kind of got out of hand at some point.”
“I like it,” Kame said as he nodded along. “It brightens up the street.”
No. You’re confused. You brighten up the room with your smile. Jin wanted to say.
“I’ll see you around,” he said instead, deciding that it was time for him to go to work.
“Yeah, I’ll see you.”
Their eyes locked for a second longer than they normally did. Jin wanted to say something. He wanted to ask the guy out but he had no idea how. He hadn’t done the dating thing in years and normally, other people came onto him. Was he supposed to make the first move? Was the other guy even into him?
So many questions and so little answers. Thankfully, he could text them all to Tomohisa and get help.
Sure his friend wasn’t the most helpful of people but he could sense when Jin was asking questions looking for real answers rather than sarcastic replies and when that was the case, he knew how to give Jin advice that made sense and that was actually good. (To some extent.)
Without actually meaning too, Jin let out a soft chuckle and headed out the bakery, mentally hitting himself.
One day, he would go up to that handsome baker named Kame and one day, he would go out with him.
He could swear that on Tomohisa’s unborn child.

Chapter 4
A/N - I am SO sorry for taking so long. I had 0 inspiration. That and I'm working on something else.
I won't say it's because I didn't have time because that would be a lie. (Considering I've played over 20hours of Far Cry 4 (OOOPSS) and that I just watched a whole season of desperate housewives in one week)
Anyways, I'll try not to make you all linger for too long this time <3
Cheers!
xx Marie

Anyways, I'll try not to make you all linger for too long this time <3
Cheers!
xx Marie
